Changes to the way the news is delivered

By now everyone should have received an email from our system asking you to opt in for our Newsletter. The current way in which our newsletter is delivered has cause us some grief. Therefore I have upgraded all the servers and lists (PWnew - Kyusho etc). This requires that everyone re-verify that they wish to receive these mailing. This is Canadian and US spam law, so there is really no way around it.

This newsletter will be the last sent out under this older system Effective Saturday August 1st 2009 the new system kicks in. If you confirmed you subscription, you are all set. If you did not, then you need to follow this link to resubscribe. If you no longer wish to receive these mailings you need do nothing.

This concludes our August 2009 newsletter. See you all in September!

Harmonized Sales Tax

In July 2010 our Provincial Government is planning on harmonizing the PST and GST into one tax. I don't normally ever use this forum to discuss political matters however this ONE TAX is going to cost us, the citizens of Ontario BIG TIME. What does this mean to our students? A tuition increase across the board for everyone. Currently 5% GST is charged on all tuitions paid by students. This will increase to 13% because of this new tax. As a school we will have no choice but to charge it.

I encourage everyone to contact their MPP and remind them that they work for us and that this tax is not acceptable.

See your instructor for scheduling details.

His presence on the floor will be missed while he is gone. We all look forward to the time when he will return to teaching.

Rules for the Floor

Over the last few months I have noticed that certain things are happening on the training floor that need to be addressed. Whenever possible please consider these following rules and example;
  • Keep toe nails and finger nails trimmed at all times.
  • Remove earrings, chains, sharp rings etc.
  • If you hair is long tie it up. This will prevent it getting in your eyes and causing injury
  • No gum chewing. It is a choke hazard.

  • Keep your uniform clean at all times.
All these examples are for the comfort and safety of all members young and not so young.

Message of the Month

Integrity - You would never think of stealing from a store. But we've all walked all the way back to your car before you realize that the clerk gave you too much change. You justify the error to yourself and drive away. After all the clerk was rude, and it was not your fault. You are also late for an appointment. No time to walk back to the store now.

This is called "situational integrity". Better to have "absolute integrity". Do the right thing....no matter what.

Our School Tournament

Spring is Coming!

I know, right now it is hard to believe, but spring is coming. And with the onset of Spring comes "Spring Cleaning". This is a time when we go through our homes and find things that we no longer want or need. Then comes the Garage Sale! Well I have a way for you to sell off your old items without all the work and/or expense of a "garage" sale or classified ads. On our Student Website we have a Classified Ads Section. Here you can list and sell your items at no charge or commission at all. Absolutely FREE. To list your products you must logon to our website. From there it is easy. If you have any questions feel free to contact our office, and good luck with your sale!

The Peaceful Warriors' Reading Program

Exciting News for Readers!

Starting March 1st, 2009 you will be able to enroll into our new "Black Belt Reading Program"! Students of all ages will be able to earn our new Belt Bookmarks by reading books! Here is an outline for the program;

Once you enroll you will start with your "White Belt Bookmark". From that point on you will have to read 3 books to receive your next level (Age and Reading level appropriate). Make sure to fill out each book you read on your book chart and have it signed by your parents (14 and under). Then submit your reading chart to your teacher to receive your next level bookmark!

We have bookmarks for ALL colour belt levels! This is an exciting way not only to become an excellent reader, but also become a "Black Belt" Reader! Very similarly to our normal belt system you will have to read 48 books in total to reach this incredible goal of becoming a Black Belt Reader! For more information talk to your teacher!

Good Luck and Happy Reading!

March Break Camps

Over the past several years we have been doing day camps over the March Break. Unfortunately this year we will not be doing these. The schedule of the instructors and staff involved will not permit this. Hopefully we will be able to re-implement these in future years. On another note, our school is open and running it's normal class schedule during the March Break.

Black Belt Demo Rescheduled

The Black Belt Demonstration that was scheduled for Saturday March 21st has been rescheduled to Saturday September 19th. This is due to the number of students who will be away over the March Break.

Important Updates

Important News from the desk of Master Art Mason

Dear Parents & Students,

I will be making some important changes to the format of our Monthly Newsletter as well as all electronic / EMAIL correspondence with you.

The MASS email system I have been using is going to be dropped ASAP (If you are reading this message in your INBOX, this is the method I am referring). It is a system that we have had a lot of bugs with, especially the fact that so many people's SPAM filters toss these emails into the junk box. From this writing forward all emails will come directly from the Student Website, including the Monthly Newsletter. The newsletter will once again be email directly to you on the 1st of each month.

What does this mean? Your MUST create and account on our student website (http://students.thepeacefulwarriors.org). Accounts are FREE and only take 2 minutes to setup. Without an account you will miss the emails and newsletters in the future.

Those with account please login and check to make sure your account is still active. Some people accounts were deleted by maintenance due to lack of use. This feature is going to be disabled in the future.

This upgrade is important to keep everyone up to date on what is going on with our school and will also improve the efficiency of our email service.

Thank you for your continuing support!

Master Art Mason
